Packing Tips 1. "If It's not tight, it's not right!" The number one way to break an item during transit is not having it secure! Two impacts happen with every drop. First the box takes the impact. Second, any items loose in the box hit the inside of the box causing a second impact. When shipping your items, make sure that your item is surrounded by filler. We recommend packing peanuts or styrofoam walling. These give great support while maintaining their integrity during transit. When an impact does occur, the filler will absorb a majority of the shock during the first impact. Since the item cannot move now, no secondary impact occurs. You have reduced your break percentage by half! 2. "Don't get bloody! Cut away from your body!" Most accidents are preventable by using some simple rules and not trying to rush. One of the most frequent accidents is cuts with blades while using a box cutter. Whenever you use a box cutter for any type of work, always cut down and away from your body. This way, if you slip or make a mistake in error, you are assured the blade will not be headed in the direction towards you. You can always buy a new box, you can't always get a new thumb! 3. "H is for Heavy duty!" The heavier your box gets, the more security it's going to need to stay together. Putting one strip of packing tape is not going to cut it if your shipping 30lbs or more. Lay a center strip of tape down the center of the box connecting to the two flaps together. Then put a strip down on each edge of your original strip. This gives you a bit of extra weight support. Then lay a strip of tape down the edge of the box where the edges are showing. Put a strip down on the edges of this piece as well. Repeat this on the other side of the box. The finished product should look like an "H" running across the bottom of your box. Taping your box up like this assures that the bottom flaps will not come loose during transport. Want More Tips?
